The gates in wrought iron, flowered with their volutes open onto
the gardens and the parks of the bastides, the stair ramps and balconies
are like iron lace, exhibited under the windows.
All these creations integrate perfectly into the country architecture.

Here, tradition for earth transformation changed through
centuries.
Earthenware, tiles, like these little tiles (tomettes) with different tones of
red which are on houses' floors and of course pottery.

The pottery's production has known its apogee in the XVIII century:
between 1750 and 1780, 15 factories opened in Marseille.
Moustiers became a very active center with real earthenwarers' dynasties.
The changing middle-class and the nobility, the taste for receptions,
favoured the creation of dinner services.
The pottery so-called "grand feu" and "petit feu" have
known their masters: Joseph Clérissy, Joseph Gaspard Robert,
the widow Perrin, each with their own style. The tones are among
yellow and orange or emerald green, the drawings with flowers, historic
scenes or inspired from mythology.
After a long period of silence, this craft knows a real rebirth.
Numerous art workshops are open around Aix.
The Arbaud Museum owns a rare pottery
collection.
