Aix is the ideal base for exploring Provence: there is some wonderful countryside within just a few miles (Camargue, Luberon, Calanques, Côte d'Azur, Haute-Provence). Many excursions in Provence are organized from Aix. Alternatively, regular bus links mean that if you are staying in Aix, you can visit the main towns of Provence within the day: Arles, Marseille, Cassis, La Ciotat, Salon de Provence, Avignon, etc.
