Base Nautique de Plantain (Water Sports Centre): this centre is
unique in the region not only because of its size (55 hectares or 135
acres) but because of the quality of its construction.
Tourists and residents
alike visit this developed area of beaches, lawns, footpaths and
cycle tracks, ideal for swimming, windsurfing and other sports.
This firstclass
site near the Durance river, open every day, is only 50 km from
Marseille and 20 km from Aix en Provence.
Bathing is supervised from
11:00 and 19:00 from mid-June to mid-September. Refreshment stall,
games area (ping pong, bowls), beach soccer and beach volleyball pitch.
Things to see: King René's Castle: one of the most significant monuments
in Provence, with interesting decorative mouldings and panoramic
views from the terraces. Grotte aux Palmiers (palm-tree caves), with
palm tree fossils, 6.5 million years old, unique in Europe and perhaps in

Annual events: "garage sale" in the street: 1 May. Crafts fair in June.
Garlic and Lavender fair: 1st Sunday in July. Musical Evenings at the
Castle throughout July: concerts, drama.
