| The Milles Memorial |
The Tuilerie des Milles was the only camp in
France used both for internment, transit and
deportation.
Outside view of the Tuilerie (tile factory), an
imposing red-brick structure, unchanged to the
present day. In this former refectory of the camp
guards, murals painted by interned artists recall
that many members of the German and
Austrian intelligentsia were interned here. The
deportees' path leads to a commemorative pillar
and a contemporary train carriage, a reminder of
the thousands of Jews deported from Les Milles
to Auschwitz via Drancy.

| The Entremont Oppidum |
The excavations undertaken at the site since
1946 have revealed traces of a defended
settlement (ramparts to the North of the
plateau) and an advanced civilisation with shops,
warehouses and workshops and also a large
building thought to be a shrine. A visit to
Entremont merits a trip to the archaeological
rooms in the Granet Museum (town centre). One
may admire the collections from this site, statues
and bas-relief of as well as impressive severed
heads.

| The Bibemus Quarries |
Situated between Aix-en-Provence and
Vauvenargues, the ochre quarries have provided
stone for several monuments and hotels which
are characteristic of Aix.
From November 1985, in order to paint from
nature, Cezanne rented a cottage here.

| Domaine du Grand Saint Jean |
Built on a Salyen oratory and around an 11th
century chapel, the Grand Saint Jean estate is
one of the most remarkable pieces of
architectural heritage and scenery in Aix-en-
Provence. Its open air theatre hosts shows from
the Festival of Lyric Art.
