The fortuitous discovery of two statues
representing warriors (human size) allowed Count Henri De Gérin Ricard to carry out historical excavation of the site. This work went on for 10 years from 1917 to 1927.
Since 1989, through the impetus given by Mr Jean-Pierre Maggi, the Mayor of Velaux and the Velauxienne benevolent association, trained archaeologists have been carrying out the necessary work in order to safeguard our heritage. Other methods and scientific techniques confirm the authenticity and historical truths of these locations. Today, the action continues thanks to a presentation of these collections at the Tower museum. 26 centuries of history are on display for the public. Dynamic action is possible because of the combination of the sites of Roquepertuse and the Tower museum.
