Ruins and various objects discovered here testify to human activity as early as 8000 BC (cattle shelter, archaeological museum). In the 11th century, the town
was ruled by the lords of Baux (ruins of Queen Jeanne's castle, destroyed in the Revolution); in the 15th century, King Henri IV gave the land to the Gaillard Longjumeau family.

. The Roquefavour aqueduct is the largest stone aqueduct in the world.
This veritable masterpiece, 375 metres long and 84 metres high, with 3 tiers of arches, crosses the Arc Valley at Ventabren. It was designed and built under the direction of the engineer De Montricher, being inaugurated on 19 December 1847. It supplied the city of Marseille with water and saved it from cholera and the plague.
