Chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Espérance

Chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Espérance

Abbey

This large 12th century Romanesque chapel in Bouc Bel Air is located a few meters from an old mill, in the pine forest near the old village, which offers, besides the attraction of a typically Mediterranean forest, a beautiful point of view on the plain and on all the massif of the Etoile. In addition, it is a precious testimony to the fervor of the boucaine faith, since an annual procession took place on Sunday after Easter and Assumption day, and it was home to many ex-votos, mostly in the eighteenth century. The 48 ex-votos are currently kept in a secure place, waiting to be able to present them again in the Church of St. Andrew and in more suitable furniture. Reflecting a popular culture, they are of an extreme variety (diseases, epidemics, accidents, drownings, shipwrecks, falls ...) and enlighten us in an often moving way on the daily life of our ancestors.
