St Mitre Park

Access to the park is from Route de Berre. An imposing gate opens on to two avenues lined with ancient chestnut trees and box, which circle a meadow and meet on the other side, enclosing a pond with a waterfall, on an esplanade planted with leafy trees.


In the centre of this esplanade is a mansion built in 1875. The main features of this part are an old covered wash-house, and a large pond and the stream which contain aquatic plants, fish and frogs. To the east is an arboretum containing a fine collection of trees. Dutch greenhouse and rose-garden.


The park is open from 9am until 30 minutes before sunset. In the centre of the park you will find a planetarium which has a children's play area and a botanical path. The fixed planetarium has been in operation since April 2002 in a temporary municipal building in Parc Saint-Mitre.


It is a small planetarium due to the diameter of its cupola (5m), and cannot accommodate more than 25 adults or 30 children. In collaboration with the local authorities, it is examining a long-term solution for a larger cupola. The mobile planetarium has an inflatable dome which enables it to be moved as required.
