Atelier des potiers
Beginners, rest assured! You'll soon be exploring the endless possibilities of clay and seeing your ideas spring to life. As a passionate craftsman, Christophe de Mons will help you create your pottery, sharing his knowledge and his love for detail and for a job well done.
Clay was practically his natural element as a child. He was encouraged from early childhood by his grandfather, a ceramicist and santon-maker, and his father, a ceramicist who loved working with earthenware and making moulds. Christophe would often watch them working in the workshop. As a teenager, he enrolled at the Ceramics School in Aubagne.
Once he had acquired the technique, he continued to absorb the family know-how and then took over the business in 2003. Eight years later, wishing to pass on his skills and broaden his horizons, Christophe changed careers and spent time training under master carpenters.
But he returned to his roots in 2016. The workshop had been in suspense for five years, and he gave it a new face. Patiently, Christophe, together with his wife, Elise, sorted the objects, moulds, colours, enamels and tools that had been stored there for almost 40 years, with the aim of keeping the soul of the place alive, while making it the creative and shared space it is today.
