Maison méditerranéenne des sciences humaines et sociales (MMSH) - AmU-CNRS

As a research and teaching campus for the humanities and social sciences, the Maison Méditerranéenne des Sciences Humaines et Sociales (MMSH) is a constituent part of Aix-Marseille University (AMU), supported by a CNRS Research and Support Unit (UAR 3125).
As a research service and coordination body, it brings together eleven associated laboratories, ten of which are located on the amU campus in Aix-en-Provence (Jas de Bouffan site) and one in Marseille at the Vieille Charité premises. It also hosts on its Aix site a Doctoral School ‘Spaces, Cultures, Societies’ (ED 355) and an institutional institute, the ARKAIA Institute of Mediterranean Archaeology. It supports the activities and initiatives of the Aix-Marseille site.
A member of the National Network of Houses of Social Sciences and Humanities (RNMSH) – Research Infrastructure (IR), listed on the national research roadmap since 2012 – and in accordance with the charter governing this link between the MSHs, the Mmsh promotes the scientific work of its associated units and the research units at the Aix-Marseille site that focus on the Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa using a comparative approach. It supports multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary initiatives spanning from prehistory to the contemporary period by funding research programmes. It provides support services to research units and programmes, including IT, logistics, publishing, communication and science communication, as well as digital and documentary resources.

The MMSH implements and acts as a liaison for national schemes such as the national platforms for Very Large Research Infrastructures (IR*) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation: PROGEDO and Huma-Num for teams at the University of Marseille.
